Mojo - The Music Magazine

The MOJO Honours List 2004

The theme was: Pageantry

Eleven years since the establishment of MOJO magazine, and fed up of people asking, “Why don’t you guys have an Awards?” we finally cracked, booked Whitehall’s palatial Banqueting Hall (the last grooving place of Charles I before he went to the gallows, fact fans!) and rang up some people we admire. Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, James “The Godfather Of Soul” Brown, Love’s Arthur Lee, Television, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mick Jones, Marianne Faithfull, Roger Daltrey, Mick Jones (the Clash one), Lemmy, Morrissey, Noel Gallagher and Sting dropped by. Morrissey insisted everyone on his table went veggie, The Libertines’ Carl Barât secured Sting’s autograph and the buglers of the Household Cavalry got it all off to an appropriately formal start. But don’t ask us about “host” Jimmy Carr’s asinine “routine” (brilliantly heckled by Tom Verlaine) – we still have cold sweats just thinking about it.
